Swieqi United welcomes the visit of Dr. Roberta Metsola

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola recently paid a visit to Swieqi United Football Club, touring the Club’s facilities and participating in a talk regarding female empowerment – the first in a series of talks on the subject that the Club intended to hold throughout the course of the season.

Dr Metsola first paid a visit to the Club’s training ground at Santa Klara School, where she was welcomed by Club President Dr Justin Fenech, Secretary General Dr Matthew Borg, and Chief Executive Officer Timmy Gingell, among other Executive Committee members.  At the ground, she met up with our Men’s Senior Squad and was also briefed about the Club’s plans and objectives for the future, before being presented with a Swieqi United shirt by Club President Dr Justin Fenech.

The visit then moved to the premises of the Swieqi Local Council, where Dr Metsola met up with various members from our Women’s sector.  Here, she, along with Women’s Senior Team captain and Women’s U19 lead coach Dorianne Theuma, gave an interesting talk to our players and staff about their personal experiences within the world of football and politics respectively, the struggles that they have both faced in making their way to the top of their respective fields and anti-discrimination.  Both Dorianne and Dr Metsola’s messages were extremely well received among all those present.

Dr Metsola then proceeded to take some photos with various players, staff, and parents, commemorating a memorable experience for all those who attended.

The Club would like to thank Dr. Metsola for attending and being such an integral part of this event and looks forward to further collaboration with her office in the future.
