11.02.19 Women: Three points for the Orange!
Winning this match was not an option, but a must, for Swieqi United, knowing fully well that anything less than three points would put to an end their top four hopes in the Women's League.
The Owls started very brightly, with both Amy Galea Gingell and Yolande Attard having some good chances to open the scoring early on. In the 10th minute, Attard gave the Orange the lead, as she gently tapped the ball into the unobstructed net. One goal became two shortly thereafter, as in the 17th minute, Janice Spiteri finished off a clever action between herself and the ever-present Attard, thereby securing Swieqi United's lead in the match.
The second half saw Fgura United regroup and brush up on the shortcomings which the Orange took advantage of in the first half. There were also some missed opportunities by the Owls, which could have further secured their advantage. On one instance, a powerful shot by Kate Galea from outside the box was caught by the keeper, while in another action, Attard attempted to chip the ball over the opposition goalkeeper, but her shot hit the post.
The Women's next test will be a tricky tie against Kirkop United, whereby they will try to recreate their result from the first round, when they emerged 1-0 winners.
