24.09.17 Swieqi United U15s progress through Knockout
Swieqi United's U15 Squad continued to progress through the knockout stages as they beat Xghajra in penalties after drawing 1-1 in full time at the Zebbug ground.
Xghajra scored in the first half from a set piece and finished first half in advantage. The boys commenced the second half confidently by pressing high and winning most balls in the midfield, therefore finding themselves multiple times in the opponent's box, leading subsequently to obtaining a penalty at the 60th minute which was scored by Andrea Lorefice.
Swieqi's performance greatly improved in the second half and the Owls missed a host of chances to increase the scoreline. Xghajra's only chance of scoring throughout the second period came from a counter attack which skimmed over the crossbar.
At the end of the 90 minutes, the game was decided through the lottery of penalties. The opposing team started by missing a penalty whereas Swieqi scored their first penalty. The keeper was fingertips from saving the second penalty from Xghajra and then Swieqi scored its second penalty. Xghajra went on to score their third penalty, yet Swieqi missed it. They both scored their fourth and fifth penalty, leading to both teams going on to a sudden death shoot out. Both teams scored their first attempt but the second attempt of Xaghjra went over the bar and Sean Aquilina scored the winning penalty subsequently.
