U19s: Emphatic Swieqi brush aside Mellieha challenge

21.09.17 U19s: Emphatic Swieqi brush aside Mellieha challenge

Swieqi United's U19 Squad continued their good run of form as they brushed aside a plucky Mellieha side 4-1 in tricky conditions at the Pembroke ground.

Jake Scerri put the Orange ahead after 11 minutes when he managed to skip past a couple of players and hit a low and hard shot past the goalkeeper. Mellieha managed to get the draw ten minutes later when a cross was met by a fine header.

Thankfully, Jake Scerri managed to burst through the opposition defence and restore Swieqi's lead on 37 minutes. Therefore, the score ended 2-1 in favour of Swieqi at the break.

Swieqi's performance greatly improved in the second half and the Owls missed a host of chances to increase the scoreline. Thankfully Tejumola Ayorinde had other ideas as he scored two instinctive goals; the first being a tap in after Isah Doma Yusuf burst down the right wing to cut a low cross-shot into the box, with the second being an interception following a mistake by the Mellieha goalkeeper.

Mellieha's best chance throughout the second period came from a free kick which hit the crossbar.

The Orange therefore continue to lead the standings with maximum points from the three games played so far, with the next match being against fellow promoted side Santa Lucia on Wednesday, 27th September.

Formation: E. Gatt, D. Borg, K. Muscat, B. Frendo, T. P. Debono, L. Mamo, M. Camilleri (L. Gatt), J. Scerri (J. D Ferry), I. Yusuf, G. Bugeja, L. Taliana (T. Ayordine)
