05.09.17 Minors keen to keep up good form
Following a positive pre-season and a great opening day win vs Fgura United (3-0), Swieqi United's Under 19 team will be keen on improving their performances when they face Dingli Swallows on Tuesday evening at 20:15 hrs.
The Orange will be severely tested as the Swallows managed to do the double over Swieqi's Youth team two years ago (1-2 and 0-2) and the task couldn't be harder as Swieqi travel to Dingli knowing that home advantage often plays a crucial advantage during these encounters. Nevertheless, the Orange will enter the field of play full of confidence as the youth team structure slowly begins to take shape.
Coach Rodney Bugeja has the unenviable task of trying to keep a big group of players happy but the team spirit and camaraderie in the dressing room are traits which are to be admired. With so many players yearning for a place in the starting XI, there is often no room for error and players genuinely know that they must perform well to keep their place in the team. This form of competition is certainly healthy. After all, football is now not even a 'team game' but a 'squad game' as the entire group of players can make or break a season.
Good luck to our young owls!
