Women's League: Match Preview - Swieqi United vs Hamrun Spartans

16.02.15 Women's League: Match Preview - Swieqi United vs Hamrun Spartans

Buoyed by three out of three wins in their Section B commitments, Swieqi United take on Hamrun Spartans in a match which could very well determine who ends up as the winner of Section B.

After losing the previous encounter against Hamrun Spartans 5-1, Swieqi will be out seeking revenge on the Spartans. This will not be an easy task for the Spartans since Swieqi since then have transformed themselves into a solid group, conceading just one goal in their last 3 league games and scoring an impressive18 goals in 3 games.

On the other hand, Hamrun Spartans have experienced some mixed fortunes in Section B. After stating off their commitments with a 7-0 win against wooden spoonists Lija/Iklin, Hamrun saw a 2-0 lead blow away in spectacular fashion against a determined Sliema Wanderers team who turned the tables and won 3-2. Hamrun did manage to put such loss behind them last week when they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 2-0.

Swieqi have found themselves enjoying a good spell of late, beating Lija/Iklin 14-0 followed by a 2-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows and then a hard earned 2-1 over Sliema Wanderers. In the process the owls have drawn the attention of many admirers for their style of play and approach to their games. As the games have been ticked off the match calendar, Swieqi's ladies have drawn more confident on the ball and in their passing skills. Positive to note is also the way how Swieqi's players have kept their cool and composure no matter the situation they find themselves in. This was evident last week when they faced a physical Sliema side.

Anyone watching Swieqi of late will be stunned to learn that the team was only composed during the summer months.

Hamrun began their second round commitments with some bad news off the football pitch having lost one of their key players, However a 7-0 win showed their doubters that they were still determined to keep on going. Their ambitions hit a brick wall against Sliema but was re-fuelled against Tarxien. Hamrun will also rely on the points that they managed to gather from the first round in order to be the team to win Section B.

This will surely be a highly contested keen match where both teams will be going out in search of a precious 3 points.

Come and support the ladies team on Tuesday 17th February at 8.15pm at Zebbug Ground
