24.10.19 Women Seniors: Five star display sends Swieqi United joint top
Swieqi United joined Mgarr United and Birkirkara FC at the top of the table with a comprehensive 5-0 win against Kirkop FC, this despite playing the large majority of the match with a player less on the pitch.
Within the first five minutes of the match, Jade Flask made her presence known with a sharp and decisive goal. The Owls were on fire as they continued to penetrate the Kirkop defensive line, and as a result, Jade Flask scored her second goal of the match with 20 minutes gone, after an intelligent run beat the opposition defender, leaving her one on one with the goalkeeper. Minutes later, the Owls were dealt a huge blow as what seemed to be an innocuous challenge by Kelly Agius Pace was deemed to be a grevious offence by the referee. who duly sent Agius Pace off as a result.
Nonetheless, the Owls continued to dominate proceedings. In the second half, Demi Gauci Maistre made the score 3-0 with a powerful finish, to all but secure the three points for Swieqi United. Dorianne Theuma then made no mistake when she scored an indirect freekick with a powerful shot that rippled the back of the net. Seconds before the final whistle, a handball from a Kirkop defender led the referee to give a penalty in the Owls' favour. Theuma duly stepped up with a crisp finish; the last kick of the game yielding a 5-0 win in favour of the Orange.
Swieqi United will face a true test of their credentials next week as they face league champions Birkirkara next Wednesday.
