Seniors: Ruthless Swieqi dispatch Qrendi in clinical fashion

05.04.19 Seniors: Ruthless Swieqi dispatch Qrendi in clinical fashion

Swieqi United displayed their ruthless and physical swagger that has served them so well in the BOV First Division, when they effectively sealed off their encounter with Qrendi after 36 minutes.

Coming out all guns blazing, the Owls took the lead after 18 minutes, when Ibrahim Salis' low shot was too powerful for the Qrendi keeper. In the 33rd minute, Salis made it 2-0 from a set piece, when a lofted free kick from Ion Alin Margarit caused mayhem in the Qrendi goal, only for Salis to comprehensively slot the ball in. Kyle Muscat then made it 3-0 on 36 minutes, after a corner kick was not dealt with by the Qrendi defence, with Muscat scoring from close range.

Right after the restart, the Orange continued to increase their advantage, with Salis grabbing his hat-trick and making the score 4-0. Despite reducing the arrears in the 71st minute, Qrendi were never able to fully assert themselves on proceedings and the Orange comfortably managed to defend their lead in the final stages of the match.

The win also ensured that, following results elsewhere, Swieqi United mathematically retained their First Division status with four games to spare - a magnificent achievement for the Club and particularly its players, who always give their all on the pitch. Well done, Orange!
