11.11.17 Futsal: Seniors emerge victorious over spirited Hotspurs

Swieqi United's Seniors team continued surging ahead in their quest to make it amongst Malta's top 5 futsal teams when they saw off a spirited Pieta Hotspurs Nordiska at the Corradino Pavilion.

Pieta started off the match as the brighter team, having a fine effort saved by the in-form Jacob Cipriott in the first minute. In the fourth minute, Swieqi United's Zurab Lukava opened the scoring with a clinical finish. Four minutes from half time, some lovely one-to-one passing between Christian Wismayer and Lukava saw the former double Swieqi's lead. Swieqi kept on pressing to build up a higher advantage before the break, and were rewarded when some slick team passing saw Lukava grab his second goal of the night to put Swieqi into a 0-3 half time lead.

Swieqi were caught off guard early in the second half, with Pieta's Leandros Calleja capitalising on a defensive mishap to reduce the scoreline to 1-3. However, the Owls immediately reacted with two glorious chances, one of which was cleared off the line. At this stage both teams were playing some lovely Futsal, with both teams having numerous chances to score. In the 13th minute, Pieta's custodian Goran Lazic was shown a straight red card for a foul on Boicho Marev. Swieqi managed to capitalise on their numerical advantage, Lukava sealing his hat trick to make it 1-4. At this stage Pieta were beginning to show some fatigue, giving Swieqi further chances to extend their advantage. Indeed, Boicho Marev wrapped up all three points in the last minute with a trademark goal, giving the Orange a comfortable 1-5 win.

Swieqi's Seniors next take on Marsascala on Monday 13th November at 9.15pm at Corradino Pavilion.
