31.01.17 Swieqi United U15s Continue Their Good Form

Swieqi's Under 15 team faced Zurrieq on Sunday 29th January at 15.00 at the Mgarr Ground.

The match was held in poor conditions, with the rain constantly falling. Despite the inclement weather, Swieqi started brightly and had the first chance to score, with the ball hitting the post. Swieqi continued attacking and moments later hit the post once again, with the rebound being cleared off the line.

Despite their domination of proceedings, Swieqi simply could not find the back of the net - indeed, towards the end of the first half, the Orange hit the post once again. The first half therefore ended 0-0.

The second half commenced in the same manner as the first, with Swieqi creating many chances but not managing to find the back of the net. Midway through the second half, Timmy Bonello had a shot on goal which hit the top post. Minutes later, Daniele Ferlaino had a good chance to open the score, but the opposing keeper made a good save to keep the match goalless.

With the match rapidly drawing to a close, it seemed as if the game was destined to finish in a draw. However, seven minutes from time, Timmy Bonello, with a shot from outside the box, managed to find the bottom corner of the net, to finally open the scoring in favour of the Orange. It was a well deserved goal for Swieqi; the fruit of their hard work finally paying dividends.

Zurrieq pressed forward in search of an equaliser, but the Swieqi defence remained strong and resolute, determined to keep a clean sheet and take home the three points. This perseverance paid dividends, as a few minutes later, a Ferlaino counter attack resulted in the second goal for the Orange. A 2-0 victory and a solid performance from Swieqi, who were the better team all throughout the game, earning a well deserved three points to solidify their position at the top of the standings.
