31.01.17 U17: Swieqi suffer defeat to Rabat
Swieqi U17s faced Rabat at Mgarr Ground on Sunday 29 January at 13.00.
The match started off with Swieqi having most of the possession and creating their best chances of the game. The young owls had the first chance to open the lead, but the ball went just out wide. Moments later, Swieqi had another chance, but didn’t manage to score.
Despite the good start by the boys in orange, it was Rabat who took the lead midway through the first half. Swieqi tried to react to the deficit, but Rabat doubled their lead soon after. The first half therefore ended 2-0 to Rabat, with the score not totally reflecting the good performance by the young Swieqi players.
At the beginning of the second half, Swieqi went out with all guns blazing, looking to turn the match on its head and get back into the thick of the game. Nonetheless, Rabat scored a third, but the goal was disallowed by the referee. Swieqi continued attacking and had many chances to score, but never managed to put the ball in the back of the net.
Despite the boys' best efforts, Rabat did indeed score a third midway into the second half. Christian Cali then netted his first goal for the club to score a consolation for Swieqi, who, despite trying their best to score another goal, couldn't further reduce arrears.
The game therefore finished with a 3-1 loss for Swieqi.
Swieqi play their next game on Saturday 11 February at 13.00 against Zabbar St Patrick at Zabbar ground.
