25.01.17 Swieqi Women Make it Nine in a Row!
Swieqi took on Hamrun to kick start the third round of the league on Tuesday. The girls enjoyed the majority of possession, creating numerous attacks and closing the off the game 6-1, as their unbeaten run continued.
Swieqi wasted no time to begin causing damage. After 2 minutes, Becky Naudi opened the score after a good run by Emma Moore set her up for a somewhat simple finish. However, the lead didn’t last long, with Hamrun hitting back almost immediately. Nevertheless, the girls picked themselves up and were on the attack once again. Aleksandra Georgieva’s cross managed to find the back of the net in the tenth minute to restore the lead for the girls. Emma Moore also got her name on the score sheet just before the end of the first half, after a good run down the flank.
Despite the rainy conditions, the girls started the second half where they left off in the first. Georgieva was once again on the score sheet, scoring her second of the night to make the score 4-1 to Swieqi. Despite the comfortable lead, Swieqi kept on attacking and it wasn’t long before they added a fifth goal, with Moore scoring her second of the game. Krista Montfort also got her name on the score sheet for Swieqi’s sixth.
Another convincing win for Swieqi who, were it not for the numerous questionable offside calls, could have caused even more damage. The girls have now won all nine of their league games and have a comfortable lead over closest rivals Mosta at the top of the table.
Swieqi will next face Kirkop B on Tuesday 31st January at Zebbug Ground at 8:15pm.
