15.01.17 U17: Swieqi United start the year on a high!

Swieqi U17s started of 2017 with a 2-0 win against Fgura on Saturday 14 January at 14.45 at Rabat Ground.  There were a few changes in the line up as Kiril Petrovski made his debut for the club while Andrew Shaw captained the side for the first time this season.
 
The match started off quick balanced with Swieqi seeing most of the possession of the ball.  The first half was a close one with both teams having opportunities to score, but it was Swieqi who had the best chance to score with a volley from Jake, that went just out wide.  The first half ended 0-0 as both teams headed to the dressing rooms.
 
As the referee blew for the start of the second half, both teams were giving their best to score first.  Swieqi had control of most of the possession of the match, however they didn’t manage to open the score.  
 
The game seemed heading to a draw.  However ten minutes from the end of the match, Andrew Shaw was given medical attention for an injury suffered on the pitch.  Andrew showed strength and returned to the pitch after.  Two minutes after, Andrew made a good run and came one on one with the keeper and shot the ball to the back of the net to make the score 1-0.  The Swieqi team was in total delight after taking the lead.  Fgura tried to react to the goal conceded, but it was Swieqi who recovered the ball in midfield and Leonardo scored from a rebound after a shot by Jake.
 
The game ended 2-0, as Swieqi earned a well deserve three points.  Swieqi play their next game on Sunday 22 January vs Mqabba at Dingli Ground at 12.30.
