02.11.16 Women: Swieqi open a 5 point gap
It was a tale of two halves as the Swieqi United woman's team took on Tarxien in their fourth game of the season, in what was to be the last game of the first round of fixtures.
It was a high intensity match from the kick off, with both teams sharing the ball and building up various attacks. With 8 minutes gone, Rebecca Naudi opened the score line for Swieqi after a neat cross from Sammy Joe Barbara. The lead didn't last long though, as Tarxien hit back within a couple of minutes when the Swieqi defense struggled to clear an oncoming long ball. With the game tied, the girls found it hard to break down the Tarxien defense. Nevertheless, they continued attacking and trying to create chances in front of goal. This eventually paid off as Emma Moore netted home from a Kate Galea corner to bring an end to the first half.
After a somewhat disappointing first half, the girls got back on the pitch and played a very different Second half. Now enjoying the majority of the possession, the girls put another 5 goals passed the Tarxien goal keeper. Yolande Attard bagged herself a hatrick while Emma Moore netted her second of the game. Super sub Aleksandra Gerogieva came off the bench and added another goal for the women in Orange.
A satisfying first round sees Swieqi leading the table by 5 points. The women next take on Hamrun on 16th of November at Zebbug ground to start their second round of games.
