Women: Superb Swieqi score 8 against Hamrun

28.09.16 Women: Superb Swieqi score 8 against Hamrun

Swieqi United 8 - 0 Hamrun

After missing out on the first round of action last week, the Swieqi Women's team kicked off their third season against Hamrun on Tuesday. Unlike the encounters during the previous two seasons, this matched proved to be a very one sided one. Swieqi enjoyed the majority of the possession and put on a very dominant performance, eventually running out 8-0 winners.

Despite any nerves which might have arisen due to it being the girls' first game of the season, Swieqi kept the ball well in the opening minutes. It wasn't long before they opened the scoring in the 12th minute thanks to a goal from Emma Moore. The girls kept attacking, where every single attack seemed a threat. Despite a couple of missed chances, Emma Moore grabbed a hat trick in the first half, while Kate Galea confidently netted a penalty just after the half hour mark. Sammy Jo Barbara also got herself on the score sheet, making it 5-0 at the break.

The second half continued right where the first left off. The girls kept attacking, with every single attack threatening the Hamrun goal with a couple of through balls from Kate Galea and Becky Naudi leaving Hamrun's defence chasing after Swieqi's Wingers. It wasn't long before Swieqi were awarded a corner in which Sammy Joe Barbara was first to a free ball and comfortably slotted in for her second of the night. The girls refused to take their foot off the accelerator and after a few substitutions, the new players were quick to get a piece of the action. Aleksandra Georgieva put her name on the score sheet within minutes of coming on, after a shot from Becky Naudi was deflected into her path, from which she comfortably netted on her debut. Daniela Maggi grabbed Swieqi's last goal, with a well taken shot from just outside the box.

A super start to the season for our Women's team who were deservedly winners on their opening game. The girls next take on Kirkop B on Tuesday 18th October at Zebbug at 8.15.
