[Seniors] San Gwann prove too strong for Swieqi in the derby.

23.02.15 [Seniors] San Gwann prove too strong for Swieqi in the derby.

In another gruesome encounter at the Sirens stadium, Swieqi United faced up to table-toppers San Gwann F.C. To be fair, the Orange gave the leaders a good run for their money but on the day, it was San Gwann's superior firepower which made the difference. In the first 45 minutes, San Gwann hit the post twice and Matthew Mulholland kept the Yellows at the bay most of the time. With that being said, Swieqi played well - with the midfield trio of Jeremy Gatt Coleiro, Patrick Briscoe White and jean Claude Borg working their socks off. Swieqi could have scored before half time when Matthew Asciak's first timer from a corner hit the underside of the bar but did not skip past the line.

Swieqi also started the second half strongly. With some good passing, Leontiev Konda did find the net only for the linesman to adjudge that he had been in an offside position. Thereupon, San Gwann began to take the initiative and scored in the 70th minute. The Orange tried to salvage something but a poor clearance led to San Gwann grabbing another goal before the end of the game. It ended 2-0 but plenty of positives could be taken from the game for Swieqi with a mouth watering fixture against Sirens up next.

Formation: M. Mulholland, G. Refalo, M. Asciak, S. Bonello, M. Farrugia, J.C. Borg, J.G. Coleiro, P. Briscoe White, L. Konda, K. Ekezie, O. Smeir. Subs used: E. Gollcher, D. Calleja Cremona, K. Farrugia.
