Swieqi Futsal keep Qormi at bay

19.02.15 Swieqi Futsal keep Qormi at bay

This was a match between the 4th and 5th place teams and on paper offered to be a spectacular game for both sets of fans and neutrals. Boy did it live up to such expectation !

Swieqi played a comfortable 10 minutes, passing the ball neatly between them and surging into the occasional attack. In the process they managed to peg back Qormi into their own half and this seemed to upset them. A soft goal was conceded giving Qormi the lead and this was soon after doubled to a 2-0 lead. Swieqi did try to find the net to oper their goal account, however this cost them a third goal and Qormi seemed to be crusing ahead into a comfortable lead.

Andrew Decesare grabbed a goal to put Swieqi back into the game soon before half time and this boosted the teams moral. Once again coach Zvezdan's half time team talk inspired his players who literally left Qormi with their jaws wide open stearing in disbelief when two quick successive goals were scored by Patrick Kimmi and all of a sudden Swieqi were level and game on !

Qormi literally switched off at the start of the second half and Swieqi kept on surging into attack looking to take the lead. They soon managed to find the net once again thanks to Decesare and Swieqi all of a sudden were causing a huge upset by taking a well deserved 4-3 lead. Swieqi defended solidly at the back and sniffed out any potential Qormi attacks. However once again some mis-communication between the players let Qormi snatch an equaliser.

Just like an owl at night, the Orange owls refused to close their eyes and sleep and instead kept on pressing for another goal however they found a sharp goalkeeper at the other hand who literally threw himself to keep his team in the bay. This led to him suffering an injury and needing to be replaced for the remaining 5 minutes. Both Sebastian Delsinger and Patrick Kinni had two individual chances to grab the winner for Swieqi, however in the end Swieqi had to settle for a draw against one of Malta's best futsal teams!

This was surely one of Swieqi's best futsal games played to date and the team tonight certainly proved why they deserve to be where they are amongst Malta's elite futsal teams.

The team next faces Mosta on Thursday 26th February at 9.30pm at Corradino - Entrance is free so head down to Corradino and give them your support!
