08.02.15 Plucky Swieqi stun Zejtun
Building up on the previous week's positive performance vs Zabbar, Swieqi United stunned Zejtun by beating them 1-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium.
Buoyed on by a 5 game winning streak and a sizeable crowd, the Corinthians entered the game in confident mode. Nevertheless, the Orange seemed more aggressive than the Southerners and were rewarded when on 16 minutes Kenneth Ekezie dribbled inside the Zejtun box and scored from underneath the goalkeeper.
Both sides exchanged good chances but unfortunately, goalkeeper Matthew Sapiano was seriously injured when he landed awkwardly right before half time. After the game, it emerged that he had suffered a dislocated shoulder and a broken bone - meaning he will be missing the rest of the season.
Matthew Mulholland duly replaced him and entered well pulling off some fine saves as Zejtun increased the pressure and tempo. However, Swieqi were in no mood for being complacent and the defence stood firm in the face of a barrage of long balls.
Zejtun did go close in the dying stages when a shot went wide but it was all smiles at the end as the Orange held on for a much needed win.
