10.09.10 Swieqi U. Complete 9 Pre Season Friendlies

There is never a busier period than pre-season and Swieqi United FC (SUFC) played a total of 9 games in preparation of their 2010-11 campaign. SUFC kicked off against new-born club Marsaskala FC where a solitary Daniel Bianco goal proved to be the difference between the two sides. Next SUFC faced a stern test against rivals Pembroke Athleta but showed great resolve to beat their opponents 1-0 on Pembroke’s own pitch. A clash against 2nd Division high-fliers Birzebbuga St. Peter's resulted in a 1-4 loss that could not overshadow a terrific first half performance where SUFC outplayed Birzebbuga for the entire 45 minutes and had scored earlier on through a brilliantly taken goal by Simon Cauchi. SUFC then faced a strong Rabat Ajax at Mtarfa and put in their best performance of the entire pre-season yet lost 2-0 due to two very late goals. Nevertheless, the coaching staff and players were more than content at the astonishing progress that was being made. SUFC then took part in the Santa Lucija Tournament and registered a win vs Luqa St. Andrew's (1-0) and two losses against Zejtun (0-2) and Santa Lucija (1-4). One could not help but notice the tiredness that was evident in the SUFC team as the players were playing an average of 1 game every 2 days. SUFC also found the time to venture to Gozo where they beat Division 2 Gozitan Champions Saint Lawrence Spurs 3-2 at the Sannat Ground. SUFC ended their pre-season commitments with a 1-5 loss against Saint Patrick's. Though SUFC conceded 5 goals, there were still plenty of positives to take from the game and coach Debrincat was more than satisfied with the whole pre-season campaign of 2010.
