17.09.12 FUTSAL: Swieqi U. 3 Luxol 2
Swieqi Utd F.C’s newly formed Futsal Team officially kicked-off its season yesterday, and certainly did so in style. Swieqi will be competing in the second division this season, and was drawn to play against Premier outfit St. Andrew’s F.C. in the Knock-out competition.
Swieqi defied the odds and secured a 3-2 victory, seeing them through to the second round of the competition. As expected, the Viola started off very well, taking an early lead through a fast counter attack. St. Andrew’s were in control of the game in the initial stages of the match, however, Swieqi remained composed and reacted strongly after conceding the goal. Team captain Paul Hyzler levelled the game after being picked out by Simon Gingell Littlejohn, who delivered a lovely long ball over the defence. Hyzler controlled the ball well and beat the keeper with a low drive.
St. Andrew’s kept a very high tempo, and managed to score right before the break by taking advantage of a defensive error.
In the second half Swieqi went on the offensive, and levelled the game once again through Paul Hyzler. Swieqi enjoyed most of the possession and created many chances through John Stivala, Simon Gingell Littlejohn, Matthew Debono and Martin Sammut, however, failing to score.
The hard work eventually paid off, as Swieqi were awarded a penalty after John Stivala was brought down in the penalty area. Paul Hyzler converted from the spot to give Swieqi the lead with just 2 mins left on the clock, capping a wonderful hattrick.
This goal was enough to see Swieqi progress to the next round of the competition, in which they will face Hibernians F.C., who beat Zurrieq F.C. 8-0 in their encounter.
The match is scheduled for Sunday 30th September at 10:30am at Corradino Pavilion.
